Alvarez, Golovkin poised to do battle for place in boxing history

Posted September 17, 2017

Both Gennady Golovkin and Saul "Canelo" Álvarez are excellent fighters and hard hitters. Canelo and Triple-G are the two best middleweights in the world, and according to many, they're the two best pound-for-pound boxers, as well.

This fight is extremely hard to predict the victor. Since being thrown to the fire early with his career's lone loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr., Alvarez has risen to megastar status. The combination of styles has boxing fans salivating over what will happen in the same ring where Mayweather stopped McGregor three weeks ago.

On the other hand, the 27-year old Alvarez is the younger of the two fighters, though he still has an impressive record to this point.

Golovkin (37-0, 33 knockouts) has been established as a 2-1 favorite over Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 knockouts) in a bout that was several years in the making.

He admitted as much in his post-fight interview, labelling his performance as "terrible".

Saturday, September 16 sees Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin, one of the best fights that can be made in the sport, take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The fight with Cotto represents arguably the Mexican's biggest victory and saw him claim the vacant WBC world middleweight title.

When pondering specific match-ups in boxing, either between two active fighters or ones of a mythical nature, very few pairings truly give fans what many insiders call "the butterfly" effect. "If Golovkin wins, it looks like they'll want to fight some time in December". Alvarez is a former welterweight and super welterweight champion who moved up to a catch weight of 164 pounds for his fight against Chavez. But he's also the elder statesman in this bout (35).

The Mexican superstar said the time for talking is over after weighing-in for his superfight with middleweight kingpin Golovkin. "I am the boss, not Canelo".
