National Football League notebook: Arizona running back Johnson has dislocated wrist

Posted September 15, 2017

I pretty much crushed my fantasy football league past year and Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson was a big reason for it. Star running back David Johnson dislocated a wrist, Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said, and probably will require surgery.

If it's confirmed that Johnson dislocated his wrist, he would be put on injured reserve and could miss anywhere from eight to 12 weeks. He said Tuesday night that Johnson is scheduled to have surgery this week to fix his wrist, which was injured during Sunday's loss to the Detroit Lions. His exact timetable for a return went from a very optimistic, no missed games Week 2 to possibly several weeks, depending on which doctor's recommendation was followed through on.

The team has a particular target for his return if it is possible.

Re-signing Chris Johnson, who was cut on September 1, could be an option, Arians said.

Although the Cardinals didn't say anything about the surgery, placing him on injured reserve would seem to confirm the report. In two games against the 49ers last season, Johnson ran the football 46 times for 212 yards and three touchdowns.

Johnson's x-rays came back negative but he'll undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of the injury.

The Cardinals are signing D.J. Foster off the New England practice squad, according to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the Cardinals had not officially announced the Chris Johnson signing. "We've got quality guys on our team and it's an opportunity for somebody to step up". There was talk of the team potentially bringing back Chris Johnson, but it's unclear whether that's still an option following the addition of Foster. The former third-round pick out of Iowa recorded career-highs in receptions (54), receiving yards (559), and touchdowns (4) last season.

The 25-year-old had carried the ball 11 times for 23 yards and had caught six passes for 68 yards before injuring his wrist and exiting the game.
