Thomas Lemar reaffirmed his commitment to French champions Monaco after a move to Arsenal failed to materialise.

Should Arsenal beat Liverpool to the signing of Lemar, then it could be good news for Manchester City fans who are clamouring to see their club sign Alexis Sanchez.

Lemar has been identified as the prime option to bolster the wide positions, but his involvement in the crunch World Cup qualifier against the Netherlands has seemingly ended the club's interest.

But the failure to bring Lemar in was just one of a number of shortcomings for Arsenal in the window.

Sources on Thursday said the Gunners had accepted an offer of £55 million plus a further £5m in add-ons for Sanchez, but the deal was dependent on Arsenal finding a replacement.

It wasn't all bad for Arsenal, who managed to hold on to their most prized possession, Sanchez.
