Newborn SC baby name honors historic 2017 solar eclipse

Posted August 23, 2017

After their new bundle of joy came into the world at 8:04 a.m., a few hours before the historic solar eclipse was visible across the United States, the couple took it as a sign to name their baby Eclipse in honor of the fantastic phenomenon. The healthy baby entered the world weighing 6 pounds, 3 ounces and measuring 19 inches in length. I've had some rude comments about her name and I've had some very sweet ones but it's a name - all that matters is that my daughter is healthy and she is here.

"Meet Eclipse! She was born at 8:04 am at Greenville Memorial Hospital", they shared on Facebook. Her parents are Freedom and Paul Eubanks.

Monday's total solar eclipse wasn't expected to hit parts of SC until the afternoon, but an Eclipse came early for a Greenville couple. "We're probably going to call her Clipsey".

Eubanks said her family was first "shocked" over the baby's unique name, but now thinks it was a great idea.
