"The U.S. only covers 2% of the globe, so we get very few eclipses", Matthew Penn, an astronomer with the National Optical Astronomy Observatory, told CBS News. What makes this even more fascinating is that it will mark the first time in in 99 years that a total solar eclipse crossed the entire continental us and here in Vancouver.

"Nobody has ever live-streamed aerial video footage of a total solar eclipse before", said Angela Des Jardins of Montana University. For the lucky folks in the direct path of the eclipse - the path of totality - it's sure to be an awe-inspiring and otherworldly event. "The sun is just so bright that there are things we can not see except for when the light is mostly blocked out for us". As the moon crosses between the earth and sun, the sun will appear to change shape as it will be partially blocked from our view.
