Gas prices in Rhode Island down 3 cents per gallon

AAA Northeast said Monday that the price of self-serve, regular gasoline is averaging $2.24 per gallon.

AAA Michigan says gas prices statewide have decreased by about 6 cents per gallon in the past week.

AAA says the lowest average price was about $2.22 per gallon in the Saginaw area.

According to Gasbuddy's daily survey of more than 300 outlets in the region, Manatee County stations were averaging $2.05 per gallon Monday, with Sarasota County at $2.11.

The group says 44.2 million people are expected to travel more than 50 miles away from home on USA roads, rails, waterways and in the air during this time, which is 1.25 million more than a year ago.

"We're paying about 5 and a half cents less a gallon this week than last week", he said. Though global oil price benchmark rose to $56 a barrel earlier in April, it has cooled off in May and June, falling to about $45 a barrel.

Market analysts agree that slumping global oil prices, which are the biggest factor in American gasoline prices, are keeping prices historically low. It is just a matter of time before the national average bottoms out for the short-term, but at least the low prices was perfectly timed with what may be the lowest average gas prices of the summer as we celebrate the Fourth.

AAA reports the 2017 Independence Day holiday travel period, from June 30 to July 4, will be the most traveled in the USA during that period that has ever been recorded. Wichita fell two cents in the past week to $1.96 and comes in as the 16th lowest metro area in America.
