Lakers Select Lonzo Ball With No. 2 Overall Pick

George, considered one of the best two-way players in the game, could be the cornerstone of the Lakers' return to prominence and might lure other superstars to join him in Los Angeles.

The pick hardly came as a surprise as the local kid from Chino Hills had been projected to go no. 2 even before the Lakers landed the second pick in the NBA Draft Lottery.

With UCLA last season, Ball had a standout year as a freshman, averaging 14.6 points, 7.6 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 1.8 steals while shooting 41.2 percent from three and 55.1 percent from the field. Today, Foot Locker released their latest 2017 Draft Day commercial that includes Lonzo Ball, De'Aaron Fox, Jayson Tatum, Jonathan Isaac and Malik Monk as they get interviewed by their kids crew.

"Lonzo Ball is going to take the Lakers to the playoffs his first year", LaVar said.

Comparisons to Jason Kidd have followed Ball since high school, and his continued improvement has strengthened its validity. He will step in and become the team's starting point guard right away as the Lakers traded away guard D'Angelo Russell earlier this week.
