Sonic Mania Will Now Launch On August 15th

It is a throwback to classic Sonic, but with 60 FPS gameplay and improved physics.

Sonic Mania, the revival of the 2D side-scrolling Sonic platforming games from the '90s, is set to be released August 15 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, publisher Sega announced today. The company has confirmed that the game will release on August 15 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Nintendo Switch - and nope, it shouldn't be delayed again.

The new trailer is a mix of animation and in-game footage.

Sonic Mania will be running away with the end of the summer. When it goes live we'll announce that here on Nintendo Wire.

Although a leak last week gave an early look at the release date, a new trailer for the game has been released today that confirms the game's new release date of August 15th.

The game was put into development by Christian Whitehead, who previously worked on the Sonic CD revival for PC, mobile and consoles, as well as Headcannon and PagodaWest, working alongside Sega. You can play as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles as you race through new zones and reimagined classic levels. "Welcome to Sonic Mania!".

Sonic Mania won't be the only Sonic game releasing this year, as the 3D Sonic Forces is also set for a 2017 launch. Sonic Mania attempts to get back to the series' roots, offering true 2D Sonic gameplay.
