Clayton Kershaw and Cody Bellinger lead Dodgers in win over Padres

Posted May 07, 2017

On Friday night against the Padres and starter Jhoulys Chacin, Bellinger is hitting fifth and Pederson is right behind hitting sixth in the Los Angeles lineup. "It was pretty impressive what he is doing".

It was the second time Kershaw defeated the Padres this season as he improved his career-mark against them to 16-6.

Said Padres manager Andy Green: "I've been aware of him for quite some time now and he took some very good swings today". The San Diego Padres have lost 13 of their last 15 games when allowing more than three runs.

The Dodgers beat the Padres for the fifth time in six games, a span in which they have outscored them 41-14.

Clayton Richard (2-4) gave up five runs and seven hits while striking out five with a career high-tying six walks. "Where we were at, I can't predict the grand slam there". Austin Hedges continues to show defensive problems, as he committed his fourth error of the season trying to pick off Franklin Gutierrez at third.

In the ninth, singles by Seager, Turner and Yasmani Grandal (only Turner's left the infield) produced another run and Bellinger's second home run did the rest.

Bellinger capped his big night with a three-run shot to straightaway center field off Miguel Diaz with one out in the ninth. So Renfroe drew walks in each of his first two plate appearances against Kershaw.

"I know, right?" Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen said with a chuckle.

Weighing Jansen's low workload so far this season and a weather forecast that he said makes it "unlikely" Sunday's game will get played, Roberts went to Jansen at that point, asking him to get his fourth four-out save of the season.

It was the longest nine-inning Padres game in franchise history at 4 hours, 11 minutes.
